Negative filing system

In the past, all my slides and negatives were kept in the original wallets, laying around in drawers and boxes as are most amateur’s, I suspect.
Searching for specific images was difficult so I decided to file the negatives properly. The cost of the purpose-made, acid free sleeves was prohibitive. Figuring that the film only has to last out the rest of my lifetime (all the best ones would be digitised anyway!) I used ordinary office type clear, hole punched, A4 sleeves. Each film has it’s own sleeve with the strips held in place by small adhesive tabs.
All the sleeves are kept in chronological order and in ring files representing either years (when I was keen) or periods of my life.
The image reference for the print or computer file are: a letter for the ring file, followed by the sleeve number, followed by the frame number. All numbers less than ten have a zero in front of them so that the computer always sorts them into the same order as in the files. A typical reference might be d52/07. I can now move between negative, print, computer file or database with ease.
There are not a great number of slides, so they are kept in a single file with pocketed sleeves.
