Kate Day and Bill Barley thought it might be nice to give the village something to commemorate Kate’s parents [Varney]. Hugh [Kate’s husband] obtained the iron work for a park seat from Oxford City Cemeteries, Johnny Baker made up the wooden slats and Bill put the seat together and built the foundation. The basic project was funded by the social club and it was decided that anyone could, for a donation to the church, place a commemoration plaque on the seat. The seat was fixed in position on the morning of 18th April 2003.
